Recap: The Bulls Season So Far

Whilst The Bulls may have lost to the Raptors in the game we’re about to take a closer look at, their overall season may not be what they were hoping for in terms of quality, and most importantly, wins. In the previous games, the Chicago team held a 6-loss streak, losing out to teams like the Nets, the Pacers, and the Bucks to name a few. They’ve lost more games than they’ve won this season, with the PCT standing currently at .455. They’re way behind Cleveland and Milwaukee when it comes to wins and percentile and have a way to go if they’re hoping to reach the playoffs or even the play-in tournament at the end of the season.

Recap:  The Raptors Season So Far

The Raptors sit at 9th in the Eastern Conference, only two places above the Bulls and only 2 more wins than the Chicago side. The Toronto team is having one of their worst seasons in the past 5 years, in comparison to the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. The Raptors have only 32 wins in total this season, racking up more losses than they have victories. They currently hold a PCT of .478 – higher than The Bulls but only allowing them to reach 9th in the Eastern Conference. Like the Bulls, they’re going to have to pull off some wins to make sure they make it to the playoffs at the end of the season.

The Bulls Vs. The Raptors – 1st March 2023

Now we’ve taken a look at how both sides have performed in the season so far, we can dive into the action that took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario at the start of the month. The previous results throughout the season for each team have shown that this game was fairly well-matched – neither of the teams looked like they were set to take the victory before the game started.

The Bulls had won back-to-back home games to end their 6 game-losing streak, but they failed to keep this going when they travelled to Canada. The Chicago side shot 37 for 71, but it was the number of turnovers that The Bulls had that really caused them problems. The side had 20 turnovers which ultimately led the Raptors to gain 21 points. After the game, Nikola Vucevic for The Bulls said the team needed to work harder in terms of rebounding, as that is what ultimately led to their defeat.

It’s fair to say the Raptors had a few stand-out players throughout this game, like Pascal Siakam who scored 20 points for the team, Gary Trent Jr with 19, as well as O.G Anunoby and Jakob Poeltl making it onto the scoreboard. In comparison to the Bulls, the Toronto side had 94 field goal attempts when Chicago only had 71, not to mention their ability to outrebound The Bulls entirely 47-35. Scottie Barnes seemed to have a hard time in the first three-quarters of the game but made progress in the final quarter and managed a season-high with four blocks. Bulls head coach Billy Donovan put the defeat partially down to the fact ‘The Raptors have size everywhere’, making it more difficult for the team to out-muscle them when it comes to getting the ball. The Raptors have racked up their 8th win in 10 games after this performance, defeating the Bulls 104-98 – with games against the Pacers and the Nuggets coming up in the next few weeks.
