NCAAB Team Profiles: Texas Southern Tigers

The National Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball season is just days away from starting. The Texas Southern Tigers are not the current favorites in the NCAAB odds, but they are high enough up the leaderboard to be a real contender.

So who is on the team this season? Check out the Texas Southern Tigers players and their current stats.

Davon Barnes – Forward

Barnes has been on the team for two seasons already, but he only started to make an impact in the 2021-2022 games.

In that season he played for 8.8 minutes per game on average and managed to score 2.1 points per game. His field goal percentage was 40.5% and his rebounds per game were 1.4.

Barnes is a 50/50 player, as he won 8 of the 15 games played.

Grayson Carter – Forward

Cater is a senior and has played the same seasons as Davon Barnes. However, during the 2021-2022 games Carter didn’t make an appearance. This means we had to travel back to the 2020-2021 season to find some stats.

Carter played in 21 games that season and only won 6 of them.

Joirdon Karl Nicholas – Forward

Nicholas is another senior player, but unlike Barnes and Carter, he has played in both the 2020-2021 and the 2021-2022 seasons.

In the regular season, Nicholas played for 20.7 minutes per game, scored 9 points per game, and had a field goal average of 55.1% and 1 rebound per game.

In the postseason, the numbers were around the same with 20 minutes per game, 7 points per game, 37.5 field goal average, and again 1 rebound per game.

Shaqir O’Neal – Forward

O’Neal is a sophomore. He hasn’t been in any official games yet, which means we haven’t received any stats or data on the player.

This season will tell us if he is worth our time.

John Walker III – Forward

Walker is a senior and has been part of the time for the last two seasons. Like Nicholas, Walker played a massive part in both seasons.

In the regular season, Walker III played 22.6 minutes per game, 10.2 points per game, 46.1% field average, and completed 4.3 rebounds per game.

In the postseason he played 24 minutes per game, 14.5 points per game, 40.9 field goal percentage, and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Chris Craig – Guard

Chris Craig is a freshman but is already making strides for his team. He played in the 2018-2019 season with 16.5 minutes per game, 2 points per game, and a field goal percentage of 50.

Kehlin Farooq – Guard

Farooq is a sophomore but hasn’t got any official game time under his belt yet. Like O’ Neal we are waiting to see what kind of talent this player has.

Jordan Gilliam – Guard

Gilliam is a senior and has played in the last two seasons.

During the 2021 regular season, Gilliam played for 23.9 minutes per game, and scored 4.5 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 32.9%. His rebounds per game were 2.9 on average.

In the 2021 postseason, Gilliam played for 16 minutes per game, and scored 1.5 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 14.3. His rebounds per game were 1.5 on average.

Kolby Granger – Guard

Granger is a freshman from Missouri City and has yet to prove himself on the court. This season will tell us what skills the guard has.

PJ Henry – Guard

Henry is a senior and has played in the last 2 seasons of college basketball.

In his 2021 regular season, Henry played for 23.6 minutes per game, scoring 8.4 points per game with a field goal average of 4.1 percent. His rebound average was 2.8 per game.

In the postseason, Henry played for 28 minutes per game, and scored 10 points per game, with a field goal average of 44.4 percent. His rebound average was 3 per game.

Isaiah Marin – Guard

Marin is a junior and although he has been on the team since 2020, he only played in that first season.

However, in the 2020-2021 season, Marin only lost 9 of the 18 games he played in, showing that he is an average player. Hopefully, we will see more of this guard, now he has had some time both on and off the court.

Zytarious Mortle – Guard

Mortle is a freshman guard from Alexandria. He has yet to play for the Texas Southern Tigers, so we will have to wait and see what this player can bring to the team.

The Upcoming Match

Texas Southern Tiger’s upcoming match is against the San Francisco Dons. They are playing against each other on the 7th of November at the War Memorial Gymnasium.

As it currently stands the Texas Southern Tigers are the favorites to win.

Summary

We are very early into the season at the moment, in fact, the first game of the season hasn’t begun yet. With this in mind the odds can change at any moment, so keep an eye on our players and how they impact the game.
