MATT HADDY – MOUNT VERNON (IA) VARSITY GIRLS’ HEAD COACH – GET SCHOOLED #14

Matt Haddy - Mount Vernon (IA) Varsity Girls' Head Coach - Get Schooled #14

Coach Matt Haddy has been coaching basketball for 18 years and this upcoming season will be his 10th as a head coach. Matt is currently in his second year as the head girls coach at Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, IA. Prior to taking the girls position at Mount Vernon, Coach Haddy had only coached boys basketball.

Matt got his first coaching job before his freshman year of college, jumping in to coaching at a very young age. Coach Haddy has been with both very successful programs and programs that have really struggled. His first head coaching job was at Lisbon High School in Lisbon, IA. Prior to his time there, the program had been almost nonexistent as the school had long been a wrestling hot bed. When Coach Haddy took the job he had multiple people ask him if he was crazy or if Lisbon even had a basketball program. Within 5 years Matt took the team to the state tournament for the first and only time in school history and set the school record for wins in a season.

Matt has coached at 5 different high schools and one college during his career. Along with his basketball coaching experience, he has coached multiple other sports. Currently, he is the defensive coordinator for the football team at Mount Vernon and has coached football for 10 years. Coach Haddy has also been a head baseball coach and head golf coach.
